September is friendship month, and, moms and daughters, this month we will be talking about things like:
· How to be a good friends.
· How to choose good friends.
· How to be a friend to those who are lonely or different.
· How to be friends with God.
Our verse for the month is super easy and packed with meaning. It is Proverbs 17:17a, “A friend loves at all times.”
I decided to get all smart on you girls and look up the original meaning of the word “love” in this verse. The transliteration of the original word is aheb and according to Strong’s Concordance it means . . . drumroll please . . . to love! I bet you girls are feeling like Bible scholars now.
This little action packed word, love, comes in thousands of flavors. One of my favorite definitions for love is 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8, 13 (Voice):
Love is patient; love is kind.
Love isn’t envious, doesn’t boast, brag, or strut about.
There’s no arrogance in love; it’s never rude, crude, or indecent—it’s not self-absorbed.
Love isn’t easily upset.
Love doesn’t tally wrongs or celebrate injustice; but truth—yes, truth—is love’s delight!
Love puts up with anything and everything that comes along; it trusts, hopes, and endures no matter what.
Love will never become obsolete.
But now faith, hope, and love remain; these three virtues must characterize our lives. The greatest of these is love.
So girls, go aheb your friends. Giggle with them in the happy times, and be patient and kind in the difficult times. For a friend loves at all times.
