The push and pull of the tide…birds chirping just before sunrise…roaring rivers created by the melting snow . . . regular rhythms put in motion by our creative God. He also initiated morning, noon and night, and summer, winter, spring and fall. Another rhythm that God ordained for us parents is to regularly share our hearts and faith with our children
Deuteronomy 6:6-9 (Message) explains,
Write these commandments that I’ve given you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you and then get them inside your children. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning to when you fall into bed at night.
Church, Bible Studies, and youth group are very important. But in the end, the loudest voice they will hear will be how you live out your faith in the regular rhythms of life with your child – when you are sitting at home, walking in the street, having a meal, rising in the morning, going to bed at night…talk to them – share your heart and open the door for conversations about things that matter. Talk to them about what God is teaching you! It’s simply living your faith authentically before them.
What are some ways that you can live your faith authentically alongside your children?
Big bonus: when you live life authentically before your children, you will have windows to see what is going on in their world.
